Water Name

Knotford Lagoon

This is large water that is the furthest one away from the road (the first one you will see is controlled by Bradford and is not fishable on a day ticket. Due to it's size (25 acres) fish location is quite difficult and the main tactic employed was specialist carping as the carp went to over 20lb. With good tench to 8lb also making appearances. The other problem associated with the water is the weed growth, which severely restrict your choice of swims. A long walk is involved to get you to the far side over uneven ground.

In 1998 the water suffered from a large-scale fish death (rumoured to be Spring Carp Virus - and still disputed by some). The controlling club - Leeds and District ASA were quick to act when given the all clear, and stocked over 10,000 carp in the 6oz to 1lb bracket, which are now coming out nicely.

The main tactic is the feeder over a good bed of ground bait, this will hold the roach and the bream, until they are muscled out by the carp. Use a sensible hook length (21/2lb minimum).

As you will need it to keep them up and above the weed. Change the hook bait from maggot, to corn to meat to keep the fish coming. The ground bait attractants also help to find the fish. There are also some big shoals of perch that can be targeted on the pole with chopped worm. If the bigger carp are the quarry then serious gear is required due to the snags, but the rewards are there (early morning and late evening are the best as there is no night fishing allowed.)

Day tickets £3.50 from Pool Shell Garage, or Angling and Countrysports in Otley centre (near to the Ford garage). Must be obtained prior to fishing. No night fishing. (Ticket also allows a stretch of the Wharfe from Pool Road Bridge down to Viaduct at Arthington.
