Water Name

Elm Tree Farm, Hooton Roberts, Rotherham

The venue consists of two lakes with good access and parking. Aimed mainly at the pleasure angler, the landscaping and the pleasant surroundings make for a pleasurable days angling. The onsite facilities are very good with a cafe and the toilets and the pegs are suitable for anglers with disabilities.

The first lake is named Hooton Hollows; it is the smaller of the two with a little over 20 pegs. It is a well-established lake having been there now for over 7 years. There is good depth throughout and will fish well at most times of the year. It is tree lined and also very well planted with marginal reeds giving the angler lots of natural swims to fish. This lake is stocked with crucians, which go to 2lbs 8 oz. Although not record breakers they look fantastic and are numerous. Some of the carp are in the mid 20's but most average around the 4 lb mark. There are also tench and chub present to 5lb. Roach go to 2lbs with perch to 2lbs 8oz.

The second lake is yet another Horseshoe named water. This is larger than the first and can accommodate 45 pegs in total. The water is so full of silver fish that any fool with a pint of maggots could not fail to get into over 20lb of fish in a day. The average size of the carp in here is much smaller, running to about the 2lb mark, but bigger fish to 18lbs are reported. Pellets tend to sort the carp out, whilst the maggot /caster approach is fine for the silver fish.

The fish in both lakes are well within the reach of either pole or rod and line. I would take maggot, caster, meat and corn for a session fishing here. Pellet will take plenty of the smaller carp. Bigger baits such as luncheon meat can take the bigger carp present, although they have been known to be caught on light pole tackle.

Day tickets £4.50, OAPs, under 15's and registered disabled £3.50, £2.50 after 4.00 pm to be purchased from the cafe.

There are regular matches on Wednesday evening draw at 3.00 pm (£12.00 all in).

Open from 7.00 am to dusk, barbless hooks only and no keepnets. No floating baits.

The water is situated just outside Hooton Roberts, so take the A630 from Conisborough towards Rotherham. When you get into Hooton Roberts you need to take a right turn on the B6090 and you come to the fishery sign and the water is on the left.
