Stevenson Road, Attercliffe

The River Don is packed full of fish, theres everything from Minnows to Grayling, the Minnows can be a real pest unless you do actually want to fish for them but once you get past them you will get into some of the more beautiful fish like Dace, Grayling, Chub, Barbel, Wild Brown Trout, Perch, Gudgeon, Roach (big).

The Grayling was my main fish I went for but then I caught other species and lost some good fish which will always make me go back. You can park on the main road but it would be advisable if you could get dropped off and picked up so your car doesn't disappear. But another good tip when your at the water there's about 4 pegs in this stretch and the last peg just before the water goes shallow, there's some slack water with a very deep hole as it runs down from the shallow water.

Good tactics to use are the centrepin with stick float with 4lb mainline and 2lb hooklength with a size 22 hook with caster as the Minnows don't seem to take caster as much as the maggot, another good tactic is a 2 ouz running feeder or a 2 ouz fixed feeder with 6lb mainline and 4lb hooklength with either caster on a size 22 hook or a small cube of luncheon meat on a size 14 hook. This particular stretch is on the left hand side of the road and walk down the path to a gap in the fence and try to keep quiet so you dont spook the fish, it is free fishing. altogether great place to fish.
