Water Name

Birkdale Fishery

Description

There are three lakes in total offering a maximum of 80 anglers the chance to fish in wonderful surroundings. There is convenient parking next to the top lake and the main lake. But there is a fair bit of walking if you want to reach the furthest pegs. Most of the pegs do not offer any hard standing, as such most are unsuitable for anglers with disabilities. There are no toilet facilities on site. The water is also quite exposed making it uncomfortable when the wind and rain gets up.

The lakes are split up into the largest lake at about 4 acres, then a family lake and a mixed lake, the latter two being smaller than the main lake. The depths do vary with the deepest water dropping down to over 10 ft. The water is open the whole year round, but the deeper pegs are generally the only ones worth a cast when the weather drops colder. There are islands to fish to in each of the lakes.

The water offers the chance of taking a personal best carp for most people with fish present nearing 22lbs. Specialist tactics account for the better fish, but apparently late spring and early summer, good fish are taken on floating baits such as crust or chum mixers. Other fish stocked include tench, which can generally be found next to a feature such as reeds or marginal shelves, worm and flavoured corn tends to get the better fish, but they will fall to the maggot and caster approach. There is also a good stock of roach and bream that can make up some good summer bags. Rudd are also present, which appear to feed well regardless of the temperatures. There are also barbel and trout present.
