Don't beat yourself up over it mate, you must be doing something right to get plenty of runs. Think of it logically, how many bigger fish are actually in there, is it a lot or are you chasing just a few. If the answer is the former then you are being hard on yourself.Compare Fosshill to say Newbridge were the stocking level is much higher and the average stamp of fish is now around the twenty mark, then if you could manage the same number of runs at Newbridge as you get at Fosshill you would be putting up pictures of twenty plus ghosties and mirrors.Another prime example is Majestic, the Carp stocked only two years ago have piled on the weight so that single figure fish are now pushing twenty and low doubles are well over and getting up near thirty. This means that almost every run you get is a fish at or up near the size you are after.Hope this helps

Yup... Endochrine distruptors are probably going to put successful fish spawnings at risk more than Signal Crayfish (Blame women - It's their fault )

River Nidd 2010/2011 Season
Today at 4:20pm, stevieh wrote:I was having a chat with a mate & we believe with the abundance of otters the barbel keep a low profile, staying put under cover only to go on the munch at night. We may be off the mark but after talking to an ex Nidd regular who has fished the river for a good number of years I believe the river does not fish as good as it used to..?So it looks like fishing into the odd hour of darkness may produce, I certainly hope so I must say what a beautiful river the Nidd is...& a lot closer than the Trent Steve,It is in my opinion the most beautiful river i've fished. I did find what i thought was a barbel today, sadly it never made it's way into my net. Instead it chose to snag me in a dense weed bed. That was it no other action today.

PLEASE HELP chub I cant manage to catch DON
How about trying floating caster? Spend a bit of time trying to get them feeding with a bait you can hook, like Carpfantic mentioned bread crust.
Walking bull terriers
It is getting too personal now. Before anyone locks it, just one thing, what would you've done in my situation? Turned away like I did, or run around the corner to help?

Well angled Gordon. Back over soon so i'll try and catch you for a Natter bud
September 2010
Just a quick post.................After 2 previous blank sessions I was in need of of a Carp!So I popped down my nearest runs water; Pastures House. The place was rammed! Ended up in a peg I've never fished before and I don't recall anyone else either! Day didn't turn out to bad considering. Had a ghost carp just short of 10lbs and nearly had a common carp to add, but after giving me the run around for a good 5 minutes it decided to drop the hook in the margins!! Still; it was nice to get the ghostie. Tight lines
Newbridge or Rainbow?
Today at 2:29pm, Bayles wrote:humhx is oviasly a fan of rainbow and seems chummy with the owner.. if u want an honest opinion, that is my honest opinion , im not going to lie to u to make it sound better then it is ..and the catch report is pretty weak. there very little chance of hitting a 20 there or hitting a fish at all, newbridge in my opinion os far better with fish up to 30 lb ... theres more chance of hitting decent 20s in there. also the owner of rainbow told me his self its an easier day across road for bthe 20s Hope you have a good day where ever u end up BAYLESWhat a load of ................ Did heppy say he wanted to go pastie bashing and was specifically after runs? There's more to fishing than catching. I'd sooner do a session at a nice lake and blank than at a dump and catch 6lb pasties all day and night.I've not been to Rushlyvars, Newbridge or Rainbow..... but i know people who have and i know which waters have got more thumbs up for Carp fishing

Today at 8:01am, pastemaster wrote:Where the hell did the cars thing come from?! Seriously????????ALL dogs should be on a lead and under control when there's a chance they could come into contact with the public. Not everybody is a lover of dogs and big dogs, no matter what breed, can be very intimidating for some people. My parents have always had big dogs (Labs or Old English Sheepdogs) so I am used to them but not everybody is. Also, if there is even the slightest doubt about the tempriment of a dog it should be muzzled too but sadly some dog owners aren't that responsible or thoughtful.I brought the car thing into it mate, just as a example to bostons comment that its the dogs fault if it bites someone and not the owners.
Walking bull terriers
If your dog bites someone, it you who are taken to court and charged with not keeping your DOG under control, therefore, its you who is a fault, is that simple enough for you boston, or would you like it simplifying even more. i can just imagine a dog in court with one paw on the bible as you are trying to say.

down there couple of days a week, not seen any dead. Been done again tonight.
Newbridge or Rainbow?
Bayles,You know sweet FA, you don't know me, have never met me and most certainly do not know who i am "chummy" with. Instead of slagging off a fishery which is a credit to the owners hard work because you can't catch you should turn blanks into something positive. Maybe improving your skills and watercraft would be a start. Catching from somewhere like Corrie and Pine bank does not mean you are going to turn up at Rainbow or Newbridge and empty the place. They are totally different. Just because you did not catch, ask yourself why and try to learn so that next time you improve your chances.Me, i have blanked the majority of times i have fished Rainbow but find Newbridge easy now, It took a fair few visits though to get me to the stage were i am now, confident i will catch if i ever fish it again.Oh, for the record, the only time i have met or spoke to John, the owner of Rainbow is when i have handed over my money for fishing.I just like the lake, what he has done with it, seen the amount of hard work he has had to put in to get it like it is and appreciate the surroundings..

We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one mate. With the overwhelming introduction of unnatural predators I just can't see the fish getting anything back out of yet another predator being artificially introduced and there just might be nothing left for nature to sort out in the long run. Cheers, Tyke

Mother nature is a force not to be reckoned with (Not cause she's female ) ..... Nature could allow for the odd un natural predator too.Don't get me wrong... ofcourse. I am actually with you on this, i'm just suggesting a 'but' if you know what i mean Though, i personally would be more worried about there being no fish to spawn in the first place through other means.... in the not too distant future. Otters, Mink, Cormorants... etc. At least the fish do get something back out of Crays, to a certain degree.Nature will sort it all out in the long run, regardless mate

Yes mate, natural predators which nature allows for and I understand that the survival rate for spawn/fry is extremely low as a percentage. I don't want to get back to the artificially introduced predator argument again, I've already given my views on other threads. My point is that there may be no (or very few) future generations of chub, barbel, perch etc. for us to catch if the experts are right.
