Water Name

Hopton Waters Fishery

Description

The lake is situated on a multi faceted site, that accommodates stables, a Golf Driving range and also the fishery. The water features a central island with pegs around the perimeter of the ¾ of an acre pond. The depth goes from almost nothing at the road end to about 9 foot in one prominent hole at the point of the island near to the driving range. If fishing the pegs down the driving range side, it is often as wise to wear a hard hat, or fish under the brolly as the balls often go a-stray. There are no facilities on the fishing side. There is good car parking within view of most of the fishery.

The water is stocked with a good selection of fish, there are plenty of perch, which will invariably take anything that is put in front of them, which can be good for the young anglers. There is also a decent head of tench, which can be caught all around the pond.

The carp run to a decent size (approx. 20 lb) and those fish spawned within the pond are beginning to show. There are also bream (6lb) and Golden Orfe (2lb). The small number of chub initially introduced have grown and spawned well and there us now a decent stock of fishing running to 3lb.

The water is at it's deepest nearest the driving range and it does tend to fish better during the colder weather as a result here. The pegs nearest the road entrance are at the shallowest with often less than a foot deep. It is also quite exposed and the wind does whip through when it is blowing. Only a few of the pegs are suitable for anglers with disabilities.

I would take maggot, caster, worm, corn and meat with me to this fishery.
