Water Name |
Bradford University Pond |
Description |
The water covers a little less than an acre with plenty of margin features, and an island that has trees overhanging into the water making a good fish holding feature. The water in most places is very shallow, with large parts of the lake being less than 2 foot deep. There are some deeper areas up to 5 foot towards the island trees. There are no facilities to speak of, and those anglers with disabilities will need assistance in getting to the pegs. Once there, the banks are flat and offer some good hard standing. One thing to note although, is the fact that the overhanging trees that surround the whole of the lake make casting any distance very very difficult. I had a look there on Friday and found that all of the available 10 or so pegs were taken with a broad mix of people. I spoke with a nice old chap who was fishing a very old roach pole, and was bashing the very small roach out (2oz) on a single maggot. The better roach do go to 8oz, but are hard to find and target. In keeping with the water there are also plenty of perch present, again similar in size to the roach. Bream are the largest of the silver fish with better fish to 2 lb. The water does hold some carp to 10lb, with tench to 5lb, although they are rarely caught. The water does also hold lots and lots of pike, mainly jacks, but better fish to double figures has been recorded. As I was there a fish to 9lb was taken on double caster. The same angler that morning had also caught a terrapin, which weighed about 6lb (apparently they don't fight all that well, but do like maggots). At weekends you have to get there very early if you want to beat the kids to the pegs, holidays can be murderous especially when the kids get bored |
