Lewden Spring Fishery

Description

It makes a change not to have to drive down a nasty track that is a test run for Land Rovers suspension, with this fishery it is straight off the road into a nice neat cinder filled car park which is nice and flat and leads straight onto the water. The lay out of the lake is quite usual with two islands to cast to, say around fifty feet from the bank, an easy cast for a small feeder but there are plenty of features in the margins with some beautiful lily pads and rushes. The depths vary from 7’ 6” at the car park end down to 3’ 6” in one of the pegs at the far end, but overall the depth is between 5 and 6 feet.

This is a very nice friendly family fishery with Mr Nuttall (Senior) owning the land and Claire his Daughter in law actually running the place with help from her Father. Although it is a relatively new fishery open only a year, there is already a flourishing match scene here with most weekends seeing matches either on a Saturday or Sunday. So if you want to fish at the weekend it might be best to ring first although it sounds like it might be worth going as Claire also runs a snack bar for the punters convenience at the weekends.

Another interesting quirk of which I quite approve is the fishery is shut every Tuesday to give the fish a day’s break, and allow any maintenance to be carried out without disturbing the fish or the Anglers.

So what fish are in this mixed fishery?, well apart from Perch, for as you know by now no matter where I go I catch Perch and every single Perch in the lake came and introduced itself to me when I fished here, but apart from the Perch I had some nice Carp from a few oz to a nice Mirror of about 5lb, I also had Rudd and Roach skimmer hybrids. I never stopped catching, well ok, I missed a fair few but it was a bite a chuck and I was lucky enough to witness a 14lb Carp come out and another of about 9lb.

The most impressive thing about this fishery is the fact that how Disabled friendly this place is, the place is completely flat with good hard standing Pegs, neatly mown grass and a good distance between pegs, and then you have a CLEAN TIDY LOO with a ramp and room for wheelchair access.

Ok you say, how much does this fantastic Disabled friendly place cost and how many pegs are there? Well to answer the second question first there are 40 pegs and each peg costs £5.00 per day for 1 rod.

Prices/Costs

£5.00 per day for 1 rod.
