Description |
Newington. Access here is gained via the Ship Inn, and the left hand bank looking downstream is available on the the Doncaster Day ticket. Although running through flat land the water does tend to snake its way. This gives some very good backwaters in which to fish. The water in most places ranges from between 10 and 16 foot wide and generally runs between 5 and 7 foot deep. Mission. Access here is via Ferry Lane You will find very healthy stocks of silver fish here and good anglers who can read the water well can expect good bags of fish. Get among the Roach and you can expect fish to a pound and half in mixed bags. Fish over 3lb have been recorded in the past. Although nomadic there are also some very good shoals, and if you get amongst them, then good weights are on the cards. Better bream are caught a little over 6lb. It is not surprising that the water also holds some good pike with fish approaching 20lbs taken, most fish to small doubles though. There are also eels and chub present at 3lb and 5lbs respectively. Good perch to 3lbs are also present with a few dace and also the odd gudgeon and ruffe. The water with its' nice easy pace is suitable for stick float fishing. Maggot will take fish whilst caster and bread flake will account for better fish. Day tickets - £2.50 available on the bank. Fishing from Dawn until dusk, barbless hooks only, strictly no litter. Directions - Leave Bawtry on the A164 heading towards Finningley, follow the signs for Newington. As you get to the Ship Inn, take a right there and park up. |
