Upper River

I define this, as the section between Keighley and the Skipton area.

This is largely split between three or four angling associations. From the B6265, Keighley / Bradford road, in Keighley, immediately upstream, you have Keighley Angling clubs water on the right bank, and as far as the Golf Clubs land, Leeds ASAs, Stocksbridge water, on the left bank. Unfortunately the Leeds water is restricted to members only, but day tickets are available, (@ £2 per day) from local tackle shops for the Keighley side.

Good Chub and some sizable Bream and Pike are found around the area behind the Magnet Timber works, as well as some of its traditional mainstay, Roach. Unfortunately not as prolific as they used to be, the latter are still present. Fortunately the Minnow problem, previously such a pain, has dwindled a lot, and is only a real problem in the height of Summer months. Oh watch out for Grayling nowadays. They are moving downstream from the headwaters above Skipton, as the river, formerly slightly polluted by the Skipton sewage works pipeline, cleans up.� Heading upstream from the Keighley town length, you come to the golf course bridge at Uttley, and the length now run by Bradford No 1 AC. Day tickets here are restricted to members guests, so I will pass on to Steeton Bridge, where again No1 have a short length, as they do at the Ings field at Bradley near Skipton.

All around this area however Bradford City have some extensive waters, such as those at Conningley, Kildwick, and Steeton, which are available on day ticket £4 each from Richmonds Tackle in Bradford, (tel. 01274 721042), and again KL Tackle in Keighley. But other than these, if its between Kildwick and Keighley, its wet, and flows, there is a good chance its available on a Keighley day ticket.
