Water Name

Vale Of York Caravan Park (Bankdam Ponds)

Description

Springvale Caravan Park at Strensall, York. This place also has a cattery & farm on site (Hoxne Farm) it also 2 superbly stocked waters by the name of Bankdam ponds. The front pond as you enter the site holds a simply huge stock of Roach, Rudd, Skimmers, Bream, Gudgeon, Perch and several Tench. Also there are Carp to around the 20lb mark. I don't know quite how many large ones there are but there is several Carp from very small up to the 3-5lb mark, mainly common's that respond very well to luncheon meat & corn. The depth varies from 2 - 2.5 foot (margins) to a maximum of 6' in the middle area.

This pond is simply ideal for youngsters learning to fish (I have taught my own 6 year old there last season), as the fish are always ready to take bait from the hook, particularly maggots. You are almost guaranteed nearly a fish a chuck and this applies all year round. Light tactics are best to keep the bites going in winter but once the water warms up I imagine 3-5lb line straight through would work just as well.

The pond at the rear of the caravan site is a Carp lake (Match Lake) only and there are fish in there to around the 30lb mark. There are also Bream, Roach, Rudd and Bream present also. There are also bream present to just short of 4lb. I have not used this pond as yet as youngsters are not allowed on there for insurance reasons and the fact that the water is significantly deeper. I do know from speaking with other anglers that when this pond fishes IT FISHES and if you get a Carp early into your session then you are highly likely to catch several of varying size & type. I believe they like cat meat & luncheon meat (as do the Carp on the front lake, providing you can get it past the greedy Bream !!!)

It's also worth mentioning that all the pegs are in superb condition & access for the disabled is one of the best I have seen on any Fishery around York.
