Description |
This pond is more like a small lake as there are 40 pegs in total. It is controlled by the Wheatsheaf Angling club contactable through the Wheatsheaf Pub in Sherburn in Elmet. There is parking that runs alongside the road The pegs are suitable for anglers with disabilities if assisted. The remainder unfortunately are not. Other than parking within view of most pegs, there are no other facilities at the water. The pond is extremely well stocked with perch to 3lb most averaging 4oz. There is a good head of carp both mirror and common in the 20lbs range. There are lots of small roach, but the bigger fish present do run to 2lb. The decent bream are few and far between, but there are plenty of skimmers to be had. Tench are present in good numbers to 4lb (ask our Moderator Andy about these). The eels especially are very prevalent, with plenty in the 1lb bracket. Over recent years they have been taken to over 4 1/2 lb. There are a few crucians that do go over the 3lb mark The 40 pegs offer excellent access, over half of them you can park your car behind! The water also holds some very nice Pike with a couple being banked into double figures. The bigger Eels, tend to turn up when fishing for the big perch. A lobworm fished steady on the bottom will get you plenty of the slippery ones. Tactics are pole, waggler or feeder and depths vary from 2 feet to 18 feet. The key to success is plumb the depth. Maggots, caster, sweetcorn and meat all score regularly. Although the use of boilies is allowed, their success is not yet proven. |
