Horsehoe Ponds - Whitley

Description

There are two beautiful ponds at this venue, which although quite small in size offer the chance to catch some very nice fish. They are literally packed with fishy features such as lilies and margin reeds. The owners have obviously taken great care in maintaining the natural features of the ponds whilst at the same time ensuring access for disabled anglers. There are toilet facilities on site together with limited parking. The clay lined ponds are fairly shallow with the deepest parts a little over 5ft. As such the waters fish better during the summer months.

Both ponds boast a similar stocking policy with carp and tench being the main quarry. The water is reputed to hold tench topping the 10lb weight. Carp have also been landed into the low twenty's with plenty of other fish above 10lb. A popular tactic is to freeline a big bait such as meat or lobworms in the margin and let the fish find them.

A patient approach will generally pay dividends, but beef up the tackle as the fish will head for one of the many snags that are present.

Also stocked are bream to 5lb 6oz, perch to 2lb, roach around 1lb and also a number of pike, which can scare the hell out of you when landing a small fish on the pole.
