Water Name

Elvington Lake - Wheldrake Lane

Description

This water is becoming increasing popular with the specimen anglers. The site offers caravan accommodation, and you will find that the majority of those fishing will be resident on the park. The lake is about 3 acres in size and offers some good features and secluded corners where fish can be caught. The water is very deep in most places. The caravan area reaches a depth of 8 ft very quickly, whilst the centre of the lake has at least 12 foot in most places. The far corner is the shallowest at 5 ft and can be a good place to target during the warmer weather.

The lake also has a big resident population of ruffe, which is an uncommon feature. Many of the pegs are suitable for anglers with disabilities. Being on a caravan park the water has some very good facilities, in toilets and showers.

The water is very well maintained and monitored by the owner. You generally have to get there early if you want the peg that is fishing well. Although a lot of those fishing will be after the large carp, pleasure anglers can put together some cracking bags of perch, ruffe and roach. You do not have to fish all that far out to find the fish.

The carp in the water go to the middle 20's and specimen tactics account for these on a regular basis. There is also a very good stock of fish below double figures. Concerted feeding on a little and often basis works well for these fish. But be sensible as the owner insists on sensible feeding regimes. The water also holds roach, perch, bream (to 10lbs) and with good depths meaning that good winter sport can be had. Although not as prevalent the water has turned up some very big eels in the past. Tench are also present and run to a very respectable 9lbs. There are also a good head of chub in the water, with some good shoals of bream too.

Maggot and caster will guarantee bites throughout the day, with some of the better perch falling to worm fished next to a feature.
