Water Name

Cornhill Farm Ponds - East Cowton

Description

This a relatively new fishery dug out of farmland by a nice couple that have put a lot of effort into creating a lovely peaceful fishery. There is a good stocking policy over the 3 ponds and it has been designed to offer year round sport. Thought has gone into providing an easily accessible fishery for all. The banks are very flat, although some additional hard standing would help in some areas. Anglers with disabilities are allowed to drive their cars to behind the pegs. (When weather conditions allow)

All the 3 lakes have a marginal shelf and maturing beds of either reeds or rushes at either side of the pegs. All of the waters range from between 4 and 6 foot in depth. The water as expected does hold good colour at most times of the year, assisting with presentation.

The first pond that you will see on entering the car park is probably the largest of the 3 at an acre and a half. It has a number of islands that make good targets for the feeder or bomb.

Adjacent is the next water named Pond 2, of a similar size to the first the water also has a couple of islands to target. In terms of fish size this pool does tend to have the larger of the stocked fish into it. The bottom end of this lake can offer sheltered fishing from the wind when it does get up.

The final water known as Pond 3, it is the smallest at about half an acre, and it is stocked slightly different to the other two, with it featuring perch and gudgeon. It is a cracking water to get a new person to the sport on, as it will guarantee bites if a small hook and maggots are used.

Apart from the exception mentioned above the waters are mainly stocked with carp, crucians, koi and goldfish. The biggest that the carp go to is 27lb, but most fish average around the 3lb mark. Tench are present with the biggest fish running to 7lb. There are both golden and blue orfe stocked with largest fish at 4lb and 3lb respectively. There are massive stocks of roach and rudd, which devour maggots all day long. Bream are also present.

Take a good selection of baits with you depending on what your fancy targeting. Maggots and worm are get out of jail options on harder days. Luncheon meat and corn will pick out the carp and bigger fish. With Pellet acting a good change bait.
