Yorkshire Fishing Versus Yorkshire Match Anglers Episode Two – September 2008 . After what seemed an age leading up to the days match and the onslaught of banter that was being exchanged, the eagerness for the days fishing to arrive was just about unbearable for all, which was reflected on the turn out and everyone arriving at Pool Bridge Farm very early and well ahead of the draw. The teams lining up as follows: - . . The mickey taking and banter continued right through breakfast and the pay in and eventually the team captains flipped a coin for the odd or even pegs. YF.net won the toss and opted for evens leaving the odd numbers including peg 13 to YMA. The draw commenced at 9:00am with a flurry of activity as people progressed towards their pegs to see what features were available. There were calls for a duff draw as Naf proceeded to his peg located between two trees on the shady bank only to find the nearest person and in fact the only person he could actually see fishing opposite was no other than finny. Perhaps it was a cunning ploy to keep the two together at the end of the lake and well out of harms way to all others. The all in came at 10:00am and the first signs of a fish being landed came only a few seconds later with Finny pulling in a nice little skimmer on the waggler which was closely followed by another to Adecam's dismay fishing alongside him. People soon appeared to be catching a few fish which sadly didn't last as the pattern of catch one, knit one, pearl one and then nothing for the next hour started to develop. This is completely out of character for this lake were 'not' catching silvers was usually harder. Fortunately the weather was excellent, well at least for those on the sunny bank relaxing in shorts whilst the likes of Naf on the shady bank and surrounded by trees was hugging a lighter trying to keep warm. . It wasn't long before bank activity increased as people were up and wondering around trying to figure out what was going on, with spirits only slightly raised in the knowledge that the opponents were also struggling. Word was soon getting around that Chezzydan was into a few carp with a decent tench and bream and that Notonebite was catching good quality silvers at regular intervals, but still no clear winning team and it looked like it could go either way. Some quick thinking was required and who better to lead the way than Finny as he laid a second feeder rod down the margins on the sly whilst continuing with the waggler... “Well no one said i cant” he explained as the bemused YMA team looked on. The time quickly passed and with minutes to the final whistle, word again started to spread that notonebite was into a decent fish and just as the final call came he slipped the net under a double figure carp which looked to swing the odds well in favour of YMA. .
. Weighin started at the first peg with average weights of around 4lb of bits until the mob decended on Wardens peg, a late substitute fishing for YMA who lifted out a net of quality silvers and weighed in just short of 15lb easily lifting YMA into the lead, chezzydan had also put in a good performance clearly leading the YF team and pulling things back level however notonebite's was still to weigh in and indeed when he did he also had a quality net of silvers combined with the carp for a winning weight of 26lb. The YF felt the game was over at that point and were right to do so as they struggled to catch up and slipped further behind after Paste and Troll's weight put YMA further in the lead. Naf did his best to convince everyone it was a close run match and up until the last 30mins i think most would have agreed, but no matter which way he tried to add up, take away and divide, the YMA had comfortably won with around 85lb to YF's 51lb. Congratulations go to the YMA on yet another win over the YF but more importantly an excellent day of fun and banter and i think i can speak for everyone when i say, bring on next year. . Many thanks to all who participated and supported the event. . Tight Lines . The YF Team |
