Cusworth Hall fishery, Doncaster- By Malcolm Cooter. This water is currently drained. The main lake has been drained and the fish moved. Work is ongoing on the three ponds as they have won lottery funds to take them back to their original look when Cusworth Hall was first built. The good news is that there will be fishing on the main top lake as well as the second lake, with the bottom lake being made into a wildlife sanctuary. All this work will take until 2006. But we will be keeping you informed. This fishery is run under lease by Cusworth Angling and preservation society. The top lake of the three is very shallow with most places being only about 3 ft deep. But it is stacked with fish and because it is so shallow warms up quickly and brings the fish into feeding quite soon. The lake holds crucians between 1lb – 2lb, small perch and roach and tench. Fishing is allowed from sunrise to ½ hour before sunset. Although quite small the fishery rules are quite strict, and all the better for it. Derek (the bailiff) is a very knowledgeable person when it comes to fishing and fish care. He WILL check your tackle and rig to help. If you are interested, he will also help you fish safer and with more respect for your catch. It only costs £2.00 a day, no night fishing, no bivvies, no lead core, and no nut baits. Unhooking mats must be used for the carp. Keepnets are allowed, but only to European standards, and no carp to be kept in the keepnets. Keep your pegs neat and make sure you have your licence with you. Directions - Take the A1 to junction 37 then onto the A635 Doncaster Road then first right signposted Cusworth Hall follow road into village take extremely tight right hand turn then first left down track park up water is on your right.
