Candy Corner Fisheries, Wroot.

Candy Corner Fisheries, Wroot.

There are 3 lakes to fish at this venue in a lovely little village on the outskirts of Doncaster. The water is surrounded by a perimeter fence, and is well kept, there are also toilets on site. The fishery is strictly policed and the rules must be adhered to. This doesn't detract from the fishing, which is very good. The venue offers a cafe, toilets and is suitable for anglers with disabilities.

The first water you get to on entering the complex is known as AJ's. It is the largest water offering 45 pegs. It has decent depths with 6 ft in most areas. The biggest fish in the water are carp, the biggest running to over 31lb, and most fish feature into double figures. There are also ghost and koi carp present to just short of double figures. Bream and tench to 9lb and 6lb respectively. The rest of the stock is made up of roach, perch, rudd and ide.

Adjacent to the road is the 26 peg Oscars Lake. This water is a little shallower at 5 ft and has a central island, which is a natural fish holding feature. Carp of different varieties run to 8lb in here, bream go to 6lb, 2½lb tench, roach and ide to a pound, with crucian and ghost carp to a pound also.

The final pond is known as Jakes Pond, and although of a decent size there are only 10 pegs, with no fishing from one bank. This water is stuffed with silver fish of all varieties and makes it ideal for those new to the sport, or those wanting to test their reactions. Maggot will take fish at a bite a chuck.

Natural streams feed the main lake and run offs, so there is a good supply of well-oxygenated water going in. It also means that when there is a good rainfall the water does tend to become very clear, and this does have an effect on the fish and the tactics employed.

The lake caters for 40 anglers, it has easy access, with fishing from platforms (disabled angler friendly).

There are marginal reeds and good bottom features to fish to. There are some very big carp in here over the 20lb mark that do make regular appearances on the bank.

The tench are impressive, running up to the 8lb mark. Barbel have also come out nearing 3lb in weight, with the chub coming out at over 6lb, which makes the water worth a visit on it's own. Good weights are achievable all around the water with the match weights coming in at over 100lb.

Day tickets £5. Concessions at £3.50 Fishing from 7.30 am till Dusk, open from 1st of April to October 31st each year. No keepnets, no groundbait other than in feeder or pole cup. Barbless hooks to a maximum size of 12. Pole max length 13m, no boilies, bloodworm or joker. No method feeder setups, all nets to be dipped and no litter.

Directions - Leaving Doncaster on the A638 towards Bawtry. Follow the signs for Aukley, turn left onto the B13696 towards the village. Once in Auckly you come to a roundabout - go straight on here and you need the first left signed towards Wroot. After a little over a mile you come to a sharp bend and the water is just prior to this on the right.
