Askern Boating Lake, Askern. This water and the surrounding park is very much in the centre of the town of Askern. It is a pleasant place to fish and as the water has tarmac surrounding it also makes it very suitable for anglers with disabilities. There are toilet facilities on site and also a café from where day tickets are purchased. During the summer months when the water fishes at its best it can get quite busy with general park users. One way to get away from the general public is to hire one of the boats and fish from there, which is quite popular. The water covers a little over 7 acres and averages between three and six ft deep. But there are a number of places with deeper holes, and if you can locate them you will generally find some fish. There are also 2 islands, which can be a long throw from some pegs, but are worth putting a feeder out to. The main target species tend to be the tench, which run up to 5lb. If you fish with a maggot and waggler then you will find yourself catching plenty of roach and perch, both to 2lb. Apparently there is also a number of pike resident, but very few were either caught or targeted. . Fishing is now FREE, Boat Hire £6.00 between 10.00pm and 3.00pm.No live or deadbaiting allowed. Directions: The Park is in the town centre, but if coming from further afield, leave the M62 at Junction 34 and follow the signs for Askern.
