YF Annual Charity match 2008 

in aid of Martin House Childrens Hospice

The Yorkshire Fishing.net 2008 annual charity match was held in aid of Martins House Childrens Hospice and along with the hope of raising a few pounds to be donated the hospice we wanted to give the kids something to remember and a day to enjoy and after a few phone calls we were given permission by the Hospice to take 12 children with the hospice carers and their families for a days fishing to Pool Bridge Lakes which had generously been offered free of charge and with the help of some local businesses and forum members a BBQ was also laid on for lunch.

Leading up to the event, the forum members really showed their support offering days fishing trips which were auctioned of with all proceeds donated to the hospice.  A donation site was also set up and the funds soon started to accumulate and by the end of the event a total of £2,745.50 had been raised.

Despite the rainy weather the day was a huge success, with the kids staying on and fishing well into the afternoon and even forwarded thank you letters to the site afterwards for a the fun they had.

It was an occcasion that will remain close to our minds and hearts for a very long time, priveleged to have had the opportunity to spend an days fishing with some fantastic kids.  Hopefully we will be able to replicate the day again in 2009, fingers crossed, with a little more sunshine.
