Risby Park, Walkington. This is an all year round venue that offers sport of all kinds. There are 3 lakes to choose from (with a small stock pond) and all are accessible to the centrally placed car park. A number of swims will cater for the disabled angler but it is worth telephoning first to check. There are good toilets and also a snack bar for food purchases. There has been a recent addition to the water with the new Folly Lake and the existing waters have been renamed. The Tench Lake has now become the Gorse, and Carp Lake renamed Gillen Springs. The Folly Lake has been stocked with 3,000 carp up to a pound, which at the moment will take anything that is put in front of them. The pegs are platformed Gorse Lake has plenty of tench to 8lb, which are taking a liking to cockles at the moment. There is also a good stock of roach and also ide (3lb). Depth wise the water ranges from 5 foot down to 7 1/2 foot in places. Gillen Springs is the carp pond and has a good stock of carp up to 20 lb, and tench to 2lb with some good slabs that go to 7lb. As there is a lot of tench in these waters (both ponds) the early morning and late evening provides the best sport. The traditional tench baits work the best (corn, bread) with worms and caster picking up the bream. Day tickets are £6.00, groundbait in moderation and barbless hooks only. Directions from the A15 go over the big bridge (Humber) and head towards Walkington on the A164, straight through a roundabout and turn off for a place called Skidby Mill, then turn your first left and you will find the water at the side of a wood in just short of a mile.
