Conifer Lake, Allerthorpe, Pocklington.

Conifer Lake, Allerthorpe, Pocklington.

This is a stunning lake that once formed part of Waplington Manor Estate. It is tucked away amongst mature trees and ornamental shrubs. There is a large car park accessed from the new entrance on Melbourne Road with a toilet. The pegs have been altered over the winter of 2006/7 and slope down to the water and are more fishing friendly with plenty of room and are ideal for parent and child.

In terms of features to fish to then you really are spoilt for choice here. The water ranges from 3 foot deep at the car park end to 7 foot towards the bottom end of the lake. There are in total 13 islands of which 4 are now accessible by bridges and the large island is a favourite for the Carp fishermen and night fishermen, couple this with marginal rushes and impressive lily pads then you really can't go wrong. Most of the pegs will scream fish to you. The lilies especially draw you to them, and are favourite haunts of the tench.

The water received its main stock of fish way back in 1987, mainly being carp. As expected these fish have grown and developed with a lot of fish in the double figure bracket. Fish to over 27lb have been caught in recent seasons. Warmer weather sees the carp fall to floating bread tactics. Generally though they can be caught on boilies and specimen tactics. Bream are stocked and mainly appear in the 2 to 3lb bracket but specimens of 10.5lb are present. There is also a good stock of silver fish with roach, perch and rudd present. Although not in any great numbers you also have the chance of catching a chub.

With such a wide range of fish present you are advised to take a good selection of baits such as bread, maggot, worm, caster and sweetcorn. Trigga boilies continue to catch fish here.

toilet block added in 2010 with other facilites planned for the future
