Hatfield Water Park, Hatfield.

Hatfield Water Park, Hatfield.

This water is one of a number of waters run by Doncaster Council, and at a little over 22 acres and with depths of nearly 40 ft in the middle it can be slightly daunting at first to tackle.

The pegs are well maintained and suitable for anglers with disabilities. There is parking available which is near to the public toilets. The location is a popular leisure gathering place and can get very busy at weekends with walkers and kids.In terms of waterside features they are few and far between. The water is surrounded by trees, with a few hanging over the water.

The water is stocked with all silver fish, so those in search of carp will have to go elsewhere. The water is very large, but you do not have to go very far out to locate the fish. As the water drops colder the fish do tend to go a little further out, but during the warmer months a rod or medium pole length will suffice. Although there are pike present, the locals state they do not amount to anything more than jacks. We would be interested if anyone has caught any pike larger than 10lb, If so, please let us know. You would have thought that there should be some big pike in a water of this size with plenty of silver fish present.

There are plenty of tench in this water with the larger fish caught to over 6lb. The bream run to 3½ lb, with some quality roach over 2 ½ lb and to top it off there are perch that can be caught in the region of almost 3lb in weight. Natural baits work well for the silver fish, with meat and corn working well for the tench. Caster tends to pick out the better fish in the swim, whilst the bigger perch can be caught on a large worm.

Day Tickets £2.60 on the bank, concessions available for juniors, OAP's and registered disabled. Barbless hook only, no night fishing.

Directions - From leaving Doncaster you need the A18 Thorne to Hatfield Road, After about 5 miles you will come to the village of Hatfield, pass through the village then follow the signs for the park which you will find on the left hand side.
